Commodore 64 Steampunk Laptop

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I was asked if I could make a Commodore 64 Laptop and give it the Steampunk Treatment, and the worlds only C64 Laptop was born.

I started with an original 1980's Commodore 64 computer, and once dismantled I overhauled the circuit board, replaced all the capacitors / reseated chips and fixed some faults with the power supply. I then took a wooden case from an old instrument and made a keyboard surround, and cut out all the neccessary holes for the cables / ports and switches. Ventilation holes added and then all fitted together. In the top part of the case I took a high definiton video screen and audio amplifier and 4 speakers and wired into the main board.

The casing was then fitted out with some Steampunk decoration and some custom designed brasswork in the Commodore logo that had the owners initials inside.

The Steampunk C64 has since become somewhat of a Legend in the Commodore community, a couple of years later I then designed and built a matching joystick for it!

I wouldn’t change a thing about this clock, the depth of the display and richness of colour with the lighting effects is spot-on. I have it scrolling through the ‘slots’ mode every minute and the date display too so I get animation 60 times an hour. It makes me feel like I’m either in a nuclear bunker, about to engage time travel or waiting to be found at the bottom of the hatch in ‘Lost’! There are so many setup options available on this clock that there is no excuse to dislike anything at all about the clocks operation. I love the fact that this classic old counter has been given new purpose and a new lease of life. Overall, this clock is absolutely superb, I couldn’t be happier.
